All-on-4 looks like your typical denture, except it’s not secured with any adhesives. Instead, this arch device is secured with the use of implant fixtures, which are permanently placed in the mouth. Not only can it fill in the gaps but also has the added advantage of jawbone regeneration through the implant fixtures.
Keep in mind that All-on-4 is typically reserved for patients who are missing a full arch of teeth, or may be at risk for losing that many teeth. You can also still qualify if you currently use a set of removable dentures.
All-on-4 can provide the same amount of coverage for patients who already use dentures, with few prerequisites to switching treatments. But this device comes with a few more benefits:
The first step is always the consultation. During this time, you’ll sit with Dr. Andre Hughes one-on-one and discuss what you want your dream smile to look like. We’ll also take scans and molds of your smile in order to generate the most accurate device.
In the laboratory, your device will be crafted with the combined efforts of man and machine. A milling device will create your prosthesis, and a specialized lab tech will ensure that it’s painted properly and appears realistic.
The second step is to place four implant fixtures at strategic points in your jaw. The lower or upper jaw will determine how many fixtures are needed and what angle they’ll be placed at.
After the implant placements, the denture itself is placed on top and screwed into place. Dr. Andre Hughes will check for fit and balance, and the process will be complete. You’ll be able to enjoy the full functionality of your smile right away.
Since the fixtures and All-on-4 device are permanently placed, they don’t need to be removed every day for cleaning. Instead, all it takes is simple brushing with non-abrasive toothpaste to get the job done. Be sure to also schedule regular hygiene cleanings with Dr. Andre Hughes to check that your device is in good working order.
The biggest advantage of dental implants is the process of osseointegration. Since All-on-4 is supported by implant fixtures, they also trigger the process of osseointegration after placement. The jawbone generates new bone fibers, which wrap around the implants and secure them in place.
It’s a much sturdier foundation for the All-on-4 device than a removable denture would be with simple adhesives. This process is also what permanently fixes the implants to your jaw. If you happen to damage your denture, it can be easily replaced, but you will never have to replace the implant fixtures themselves.
Dental implants and dentures each have their own advantages, but combined they can be absolutely beneficial for your smile. The best way to discover your candidacy for this unique treatment is to contact us and schedule a consultation with Dr. Andre Hughes. A complete smile can transform your well-being, and we want to help you achieve that more efficiently.
