Over the many years our practice has been serving the Toronto, ON area, we have received a countless number of dental implant related questions. With all the questions we’ve answered, we’ve begun to notice that some of these questions tend to get asked far more frequently than others. So, in order to make things a bit easier on our prospective implant patients, we’ve gone ahead and gathered up the most frequently asked questions we receive here at Christie Park Dental. Then, we had Dr. Andre Hughes answer them, and put them below for you to browse at your convenience. If you don’t see your question listed below, then feel free to contact our office and speak to one of our trained team members today.
This is actually one of the most common questions we receive at our practice. During your implant placement, we will administer an anesthetic in order to ensure that you feel no pain from your implant’s placement. During the recovery period after your implant’s placement, it is not uncommon to feel some pain and discomfort, however, this should be treatable with over-the-counter pain medication. If you experience severe pain and bleeding even after a week, please contact our office.
For the most part, dental implants will last you far longer than any other tooth restoration treatment. However, the exact amount of time they will last depends largely on you. If you properly care for your implants, then they have the potential to last you the rest of your life. Proper care for dental implants involves brushing and flossing them after every meal, as well as making sure to attend all of your regularly scheduled dentist appointments.
As far as the actual placement of your implant fixture, you can expect to be in our office for about an hour. However, the success of your implant treatment largely depends on your body being able to properly osseointegrate with your implant fixture. Because of this, you can expect your implant process to take about four to six months to complete. If you’d like to know more, please visit our “Dental Implants Process” page.
Generally, the titanium portions of your dental implant cannot be seen by outside observers. The majority of the implant will be safely hidden below your gum line. However, it may be possible for the abutment holding your porcelain crown to be spied at times. That said, we will work with your implant to ensure that it will not be visible when you smile.
If you qualify for treatment with dental implants, you will be able to receive them, no matter if you have a previous restoration or not. In fact, we actually receive many patients who are sick and tired of their partial or full dentures and would like something more comfortable and more reliable. Some patients with previous restorations may be suffering from jawbone deterioration, but we can restore that using bone grafting before their implant fixture is placed.
Despite the fact that dental implants are beginning to become the most requested tooth restoration treatment, most insurance providers do not fully cover the treatment. That said, we will work closely with you to ensure that you get the most out of your insurance benefits. Please visit our “cost and financing” page to learn more.
