As we head into the warmer months of the upcoming seasons, we know that many of our readers are looking forward to creating their summer reading list. Whether you’re a fan of classic literature or the latest best-sellers, choosing a great bookstore is an essential for any book lover. Of course, there are plenty of reasons we recommend choosing a locally-owned business over a corporate store, but this is especially true when it comes to bookstores.
Independent bookstores provide more than just books for locals in the community. They provide a warm environment with unique finds that aren’t available at your run-of-the-mill Barnes and Nobles. With that being said, we wanted to kick off our blogs showcasing the best and brightest local businesses with a look at one of the best bookstores in town. Locally-owned and operated bookstore, Type Books is a favorite spot for many book lovers here in Toronto, ON. To explain more about this independent bookstore, dental implant provider Dr. Andre Hughes shares more information about Type Books.
Dubbed “the best bookstore in town” by many Toronto locals, this bookshop has two locations in the community. They have one location across from Trinity Bellwoods Park at 883 Queen Street West and one in Forest Hill Village at 427 Spadina Road. No matter which location you choose, you’ll find this independent store charming. We enjoy their Queen Street location, in particular, because it’s a short walk away from White Squirrel Coffee Shop. This is perfect for those of you that want to grab a latte and a snack to go along with your new read.
The store itself is charming from the inside and out. This neighborhood bookstore is in a quaint little shop with large windows to show off the latest books or celebrations. Currently, you’ll see their window display as a celebration of their ten year anniversary. In the ten years that Type Books has been opened, this local bookstore has become a staple business for any avid reader in the area.
Walking into the shop, there are endless shelves of books in every nook and cranny. Unlike many independent bookstores, Type Books does an excellent job at organizing their selection of books, which makes it easy to find whatever you’re looking for. They have an enormous selection of books ranging from every subject you’re interested in. If you can’t find a specific book you have in mind, simply ask one of the friendly staff members and they will be happy to help you located what you’re looking for.
This bookstore isn’t just great for adult and teen readers. Type Books has an impressive selection of children’s books with an entire room dedicated to carrying books to get your child excited about reading. This room has an impressive selection of books that range from picture books to middle-grade books.
This bookshop’s dedication to the community is another reason it’s a stand-out business here in Toronto. Type Books values the community of readers and contributes by hosting different events for local authors, story time for young readers, and book clubs for reading enthusiasts.
Overall, we’d highly recommend this local bookstore for any reader in need of a great book. Their cozy atmosphere, selection of books, and helpful staff are what makes this bookstore a must-stop in Toronto. For more information about this bookstore, visit the Type Books website.
